Our artificial lawn is designed with a unique thatching fibre tufted into the base and when installed, we include a specially developed rubber infill which is defibrillated through the whole sub-surface area so that it replicates the springy and supportive characteristics of real natural grass or lawn. Installation Process
Step 1 Dig Out
The area to be dug out to approximately 100mm (dependent on soil and lawn type) in preparation for special base material. This process may be completed by hand, or may require the expertise of a “Dingo” Operator.
In order to maintain your guarantee, and maximise the life expectancy of your lawn, we recommend one of our professional installer to lay and complete your project. However, with a little elbow grease, you can certainly save substantial money by carrying out some of the basic preparation and dig work yourself. Ask your design consultant for instructions.
Step 2 Levelling
Area is to be completely levelled in preparation for base materials
Step 3 Spread and Levelling of Base
New base works to be spread across entire area, levelled, screeded and dampen in preparation for compacting.
Step 4 Compacting
All base materials are to be machine compacted or “whacker Packed” to ensure foundation integrity. All edging is hand packed for additional support and strength.
Step 5 Roll, trim & Join
All turf is then rolled out across the entire area, being careful to ensure the direction of the lawn is facing the same direction. Each sheet is strategically positioned to minimise join points, and trimmed to size. Each join is reinforced with a unique rubber strap to ensure no movement. We also pin the lawn if the need arises.
Step 6 Defibrillation
Australian Outdoor Living has developed a unique machine defibrillation process to ensure the lawn pile is raised and consistent throughout the entire area. Critical to making your lawn look perfectly manicured.
Step 7 Edging
All Edges are hand scribed and edged to get that natural look to existing edging
Step 8 Infill
Approximately 7 kg/m2 of fine sand and 3 kg/m2 of recycle granulated rubber is spread evenly across the entire lawn. It is brushed by hand to ensure an even lay and once again defribrillated by machine to finish. The infill will naturally spread with weather and traffic. This process ensures the lawn keeps its stamina and enables the grass blades to tolerate heavy traffic while remaining lush and soft underfoot.
Step 9 Clean & Sweep
Our professional installers provide a final once over inspection, sweep the area for loose sand and granulated rubber, ensuring nothing but a perfectly manicured lawn is left behind.

ARTIFICIAL LAWN BY AUSTRALIAN OUTDOOR LIVING is extremely resilient and will not be affected or fade from the harsh urine acid. Be careful though … some imported competitor products may not be so resilient!
Just hose off urine and pick up after your pets as you normally would.
DOES IT STAND UP TO THE RIGORS OF CHILDREN AT PLAY?
Definitely, it can handle pets… it will handle children! However, if rough play disturbs the infill, it is easily restored by brushing the lawn/grass with a stiff bristled yard broom.
Artificial Lawn/Grass has another advantage over real lawn, the rubber in-fill also acts as padding.

HOW DOES THE LAWN DRAIN FROM WET WEATHER?
ARTIFICIAL LAWN BY AUSTRALIAN OUTDOOR LIVING is purpose built to handle all weather conditions. Sudden down-pours, can present water build up if the product is not properly manufactured or installed. So, the under-lay has been designed with perforations to allow water to drain through. These holes will accommodate normal drainage, and surplus water will run off the top just as it does with real grass or soil.
For any lawn product, real or fake, base preparation is paramount. Australian Outdoor Livings installation technique ensures the water will properly drain off or seep through to the garden or soil bed.
IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO BEFORE MY LAWN IS INSTALLED?
Australian Outdoor Living have created a ‘pre/post-installation’ checklist which you can request from one of our consultants.

Ensure weeds on and surrounding the area are sprayed. We recommend RoundUp or Glycophate 360. Problem weeds to look out for are Sour Grass and Clover Stop weeds. Before they spread spray herbicide directly on them. Dont want to use chemicals? Simply boil the kettle and pour directly onto weeds. The intense heat will kill the weeds instantly, stopping them in their tracks.
While weeds are not usually a problem with our artificial lawn, as it is so similar to real lawn, inthat it accomodates normal drainage etc, sometimes the odd weed may sprout up just as it does with real lawn. Obviously eradicating ANY noxious weed is likely to prove impossible; the next best step is weed suppression through preventative measures. I.e. Herbicide spraying. We recommend doing this before the lawn is laid.
Soursob grow and reproduce using a ‘bulb’ system, basically this bulb lies dormant up to 1m underground until the winter climate sets in where it then divides and sends ‘runners’ to the surface from which we see the characteristic clover leaf with the yellow flower attached to a tube stem.
- If you’re doing your own dig-out, make sure the depth is no more than 80mm. Sometimes grass can be quite thick so if you end up taking up more than 80mm be sure to ring the office and let them know so we can organise more sub-base to be installed.
WHERE CAN ARTIFICIAL LAWN BE INSTALLED?
Virtually anywhere! All that is needed is a surface with a porous base for water drainage or cleaned cement/paved area.
HOW LONG DOES IT NORMALLY TAKE TO INSTALL?
This will vary on the site location, the amount of preparation required and the size and shape of the area. Hoever, as a guide, a 10m by 3.66m area may take approx 7-8 hours to install.
WHAT SORT OF BASE CAN YOUR ARTIFICIAL LAWN BE LAID ON?
Base preparation includes
the removal of 50-100mm of top surface soil and grass debris, then
either crushed rock for a clay base, or bedding sand is then applied,
either a motorized compactor or hand compacting is used to firm up the application.
Our expert installers take care of every part of the process.
WHAT MECHANISM KEEPS MY ARTIFICIAL LAWN SECURE AND IN PLACE?
There are 3 methods we employ to keep ARTIFICIAL LAWN BY AUSTRALIAN OUTDOOR LIVING firmly secure to the ground.

ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS TO GARDEN SIZE OR SHAPE?
ARTIFICIAL LAWN BY AUSTRALIAN OUTDOOR LIVING is extremely versatile and flexible. It can be applied to virtually any size or shape of garden and can be securely installed on reasonable slopes also.
WHAT ABOUT THE EDGING AND BORDERS TO THE LAWN?
We do recommend our artificial lawn is butted up flush to a solid/stable edge.
It is cut with a short overlap and tucked in against any border or edging.
If your lawn area doesn’t have a solid border or edging in place ask your design consultant to also measure and quote for our wonderful landscape edging product.
CAN ARTIFICIAL LAWN BY AUSTRALIAN OUTDOOR LIVING BE SCULPTURED AROUND POOLS, PLANTS, TREES OR WALKWAYS?
Yes, the same as normal lawn. Our professional team of installers has the expertise, machinery and skill to make your artificial lawn suite any situation.
IS ARTIFICIAL LAWN BY AUSTRALIAN OUTDOOR LIVING FLAMMABLE?
ARTIFICIAL LAWN BY AUSTRALIAN OUTDOOR LIVING will not catch fire, however under intense heat it may melt in a similar way to plastic goods. Should Major damage from fire occur, it can easily be repaired, just give us a call.
HOW MUCH PER METRE TO INSTALL?
Naturally this will depend on the particular site and is impossible to determine without an accurate assessment and site measure. Preparation works will affect your new lawn costs dramatically. “How long is a piece of string?”

- It requires very little to no maintenance what so ever. However, should you wish to ...
- you may rake it using a light weight plastic “fan style” rake, a strong bristled broom or even an electric blower will remove leaves or debris if necessary.
- A quick squirt with a garden hose or water bucket will keep the lawn bristles looking clean and like new. (Before using water, please check and adhere to your local water restrictions and regulations at all times)
- Our lawn looks so real that in the winter months, the odd weed may grow through the drainage perforations, these can give a more natural look however if unwanted can be poisoned by your basic weed killer purchased from any hardware/ garden care store.
- As with all our products, our friendly consultants will provide you with complete instruction and training on how to maintain your lawn with our post/pre installation care guide.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

Normal everyday traffic can cause the lawn pile to ‘flatten’. This can be brushed back up simply using a stiff bristled outdoor broom against the pile direction.
- Fallen leaves and debris can be easily raked or swept up. If using a leaf blower be sure not to direct it too close to the lawn as you may blow out the infill.
